Gabriele Gianni (1978) is an Italian artist and filmmaker. In 2010 his experimental short film DYSLEXIA premiered at the 50th Annecy Animation Festival and the 27th Turin Film Festival. He directed for the Carla Fendi Foundation the documentaries: A SENSE OF WONDER, about the incredible life of British scientist Stephen Hawking; ECCE ROBOT, about artificial intelligence and robotics, a journey through the thoughts of British scientist Alan Turing; ABOUT SOL, about the life of contemporary artist Sol LeWitt in Italy, and NOTES ON STONE, a documentary about the extraordinary life of Austrian sculptor Anna Mahler, daughter of composer Gustav Mahler, all films premiered at the Spoleto Festival of 2 Worlds from 2018 to 2022.
In 2022 he created REALITY? an augmented reality installation investigating the illusory space of consciousness. The site-specific installation designed to be integrated into the Renaissance baptistery of Santa Maria della Manna d’Oro in Spoleto. In 2023 the Video/AI ARTIFICIAL CREATION installation on the act of creating from numbers at the time of Artificial Intelligence. In 2024 he created the XR UNTITLED WORSHIP experience for the Milan Triennale with Spazio Taverna, a curatorial space by Marco Bassan and Ludovico Pratesi.
His exhibition VARIABILE ALTEMPS, produced by Carla Fendi Foundation, is a dialogue between contemporary art, AI and the collection of Palazzo Altemps - Museo Nazionale Romano, where digital works of art coexist with technological tools for the reconstruction and analysis of ancient sculptures. For his video installation SPECULUM, hosted in the exhibition “Guercino. The Ludovisi Era in Rome”, at the Scuderie del Quirinale, he created an AI model trained to replicate the reflections of water, the liquid territory chosen by the artist as the virtual mirror in which two masterpieces are reflected in each other, becoming pure forms of light.
In 2026 he created for the Farnesina Collection of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the work DYNAMIC MATTER, part of a research project on the nature of artificial intelligence and its latent tension toward life.
